The Cypress Winds Clarinet Quartet are a group of lifetime clarinet players dedicated to expressing their love of music. Founded in 2016, they perform in the Greater Houston area for museums, churches, community centers, and private events.
The quartet puts on beautiful performances of both contemporary and standard works. With over 100 years of clarinet playing combined, they are able to display their expertise and passion through a variety of musical styles.
As a senior ensemble they also focus on bringing music to the seniors of the community through both their performances and community outreach.

Sheila sadly passed away in November 2020. Not only was she an outstanding musician but she was a supportive and caring person.
Her vision included enriching the musical landscape of Houston and surrounding areas and bringing music to young and old. Cypress Winds will continue to move forward with that vision.
A native Texan, received her Bachelor of Music Performance degree from the University of Houston where she studied under David Peck, principal clarinetist of the Houston Symphony. While in school, Mae served as principal clarinetist with the Houston Youth Symphony, played Bb and Eb Clarinet in the University of Houston Wind Ensemble an

While in school, Mae served as principal clarinetist with the Houston Youth Symphony, played Bb and Eb Clarinet in the University of Houston Wind Ensemble and performed in several local area musicals. Currently, she performs with the Cypress Symphonic Band, and the Cypress Winds Clarinet Quartet.
Performs on clarinet with the Houston Concert Band, New Horizons Band and the Cypress Winds Quartet. She has played with the Houston Symphonic Band and Clarinet Ensemble, Houston Sinfonietta and Houston Civic Symphony. Originally from Michigan, Mrs. McStravick played in the Heidelberg Symphonic Band while earning her B.A. in German. Sh

She has an M.A. in German literature from Rice University and has taught languages in college and middle school.

She transferred to Auburn University to study Chemical Engineering, and while at Auburn performed in the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Marching Band. Ms. Ryan took a hiat

John has performed as a soloist with t

He has been principle clarinetist with MDUMC Orchestra for the past 15 years and is a founding board member and instrumentalist of the Energy City New Horizons Music Symphonic Band. John has performed as a soloist with the ECNHM Traditional Jazz Combo, ECNHM Big Band, and the MDUMC Saxophone Ensemble and was a guest performer with the Texas Medical Center Orchestra. In addition to writing a full-length musical, Prodigal, he has also arranges music for various groups. John studied clarinet under Ray Scott of Fredonia State University.
Cypress Winds' has retired the composition competition.
The 2019 winner was Lynn John for her composition "Birdsongs"
